Stage 1: Definition

1. Feature overview

We want to make add-on installation as clear as possible for end users, so that they understand what they're installing and why. It must also be easy for users to get rid of installed add-ons that they no longer want.

  • bug ? - Make it so that add-ons installed from trusted sources are more easily installed (one click?).
  • bug ? - Redesign external install opt-in screen.
    • bug 834385 - about:newaddon should support messages from the vendor, read from install.rdf
    • bug 769495 - The opt-in screen needs to support multiple add-on installs.
  • bug 640775 - Make it possible to completely remove globally installed add-ons from the Add-ons Manager (disable and hide).
  • bug ? - Remind users about add-ons the have installed.
  • bug 879480 - Make it possible to request add-on install / uninstall from a separate process.

2. Users & use cases

End users are the primary target here, specially less knowledgeable users who are more likely to install malicious or unwanted add-ons unknowingly.
