Upcoming Product Releases

Firefox 3.0.19 / Firefox 3.5.9

  • released yesterday - yay!
  • some problems with 3.0.19 Setup.exe files not being signed (now fixed)
  • both these releases will offer a major update to Firefox 3.6.2 if users manually check for updates

Firefox 3.6.3 and others

  • will be deciding today about timeline for this
  • likely to be a chemspill fix for the CanSecWest issue
  • not sure if it's needed on 3.5.x or 3.0.x

Lorentz Branch (Firefox 3.6.?)

  • issues found in build1, some backports from mozilla-central were missed
  • new issues being tracked: bug 556026, bug 555970, unfiled hang-detector kicking in when switching tabs a lot on youtube
  • Looks like none of these are serious enough to block a beta, so we're likely to start build2 spins today
  • release target: April 2nd as a downloadable build with context around who we'd like to test it and how to give feedback

Fennec 1.0.1 Maemo

  • contains fix for ADU issue
  • contains fix for WOFF vulnerability
  • Builds spun, a couple locale repack problems, hoping to test and release this week.

mozilla-central developer preview

  • This has been on hold for various trunk blockers. First aero glass, now GPU video and other stuff. Hope to have a good nightly tomorrow.
  • release target: early week of April 5th

Labs

  • Jetpack
    • SDK 0.2 shipped last Friday (blog post)
    • SDK 0.3 development underway (development plan)
    • 0.3 freezes April 18, RC1 on April 19, Final on April 26

Support

  • Weekly Support Report sign up here.
  • Top issue is still the Hotmail issue: bug 538892 but we have progress (thanks tchung and ehsan!)!
  • Also new after 3.6.2: OSX stalling on DNS lookups for SOME users. bug 555819
  • Question for the community: what should we do about stuff like extensions that break Firefox that we find.

Product Development

Firefox Project

Some recent work:

  • Tab Matches in Awesomebar landed. Woop!
    Tabs-in-awesomebar.png
  • EM API and UI work still in code review.
  • Looks like, for a quarter, we'll net about 44% of all i/o moved off main thread, with two bugs in review to bring us to > 75%. I'm looking at you, Novotny and Duell!
  • Glass turned on for Windows theme, but then turned off due to some nasty bugs (see, e.g., bug 450767 and follow up bugs)

If you want an RSS feed full of Firefox awesomeness like this, check out planet firefox.

    • blizzard: GFX acceleration test plan?
      • Clint and Jonathan working on an extension to crowd-source testing broadly. Details in dev.planning/dev.quality post.

Release Engineering

  • 3.0.19 went out with installers unsigned. Looking into why. The internals _were_ signed though. bug 556222
    • Checks are in place to verify 3.5.x, 3.6.x installers
  • Fennec1.0.1 produced using new rel-automation (yippee!!)

Evangelism

  • Newsletter going out today

Marketing/PR

  • Plugging the CSS History Leak
  • Mozilla.com testing:
    • Working with metrics on continued tests on the download page for IE users...current focus is on optimizing for page load time, and this seems to have a huge impact on download conversion. Will implement any relevant findings in the short term, and will use this info (speed=good) as a building block when we redesign the site later this year.
    • Working with metrics and Sean Martell to tweak the first run page design, again based on some recent tests.

Roundtable

  • l10n changeset signoffs - who's doin' 'em, and who's allowed?
  • betas off project branches introduced some unexpected website issues with socorro/SUMI
