He is a senior and respected leader. We will welcome him back with open arms," party general secretary Tariq Anwar, MP told PTI here today. "Our information is that Sangma is not happy in BJP's association and he is planning to come back to us," Anwar said. He, however, added that neither Sangma had approached NCP nor the party had sounded him so far. Ever since BJP announced its plan to return to Hindutava and go all out for construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, Sangma has been planning to severe his ties with all those having truck with the saffron party, Anwar said. Commenting on media reports, another NCP General Secretary D P Tripathi in Mumbai indicated that Sangma was likely to re-join the NCP. He, however, said that said no meaningful consultation and decisive move has been made in this direction. Sangma had quit NCP after the party, under the leadership of Sharad Pawar, had decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with Congress, the party from which both of them had come out over the foreign origin issue of Sonia Gandhi. Sangma was, however, not immediately available for comment. Permanent Secretary & Media Advisor, NCPPRESS RELEASE: 3rd September, 2004 NEW DELHI, 3rd September 2004, - The Nationalist Congress Party welcomes the announcement of foreign trade policy by the United Progressive Alliance government. The NCP firmly believes that the vishes krishi upaj yojna envisaged by the UPA's Commerce Minister Shri Kamal Nath will boost the export of flowers, fruits, minor forest produce and their value added products, which in turn, will give benefit to the farmers. In fact, for the first time, the agriculture sector has found its due share in foreign trade policy. Again, the provision of duty free import of capital goods under EPCG (Export Promotion Capital Goods) is meant for betterment of the toiling peasants. The government has taken a bold initiative in respect of agriculture, handicrafts, handloom, leather and gems, which will boost export of India's traditional items and will also generate employments. The NCP believes that introduction of a duty free entitlement scheme for fruits, [lowers, vegetables, minor forest produce and their value added products would help these sectors become competitive. No doubt, foreign trade policy of the UPA government is praiseworthy, however, NCP is of the view that the government should have consulted its coalition partners and left parties and taken them into confidence before the announcement of its policy.
