Takeaways after Week 1

Not a qualitative researcher because I really don't have time to be a proper qual :-) but here goes :-) based on my reading all the reviews and supporting Firefox for Android since 2012 (I think the veteran Android QA and engineering folks will have similar thoughts):

1. Slowness is the biggest complaint. Our fab engineering and product teams greatly improved our speed with Quantum Desktop, I think we can do it on Firefox for Android too! I worry about the fragmentation of Android. I know it's likely unrealistic but it would be great if we could support fewer versions of Android (just the last 3? i.e. 6,7,8 instead of 4.1-8? Can we at least drop 4.x? Focus and Rocket only support 5 and newer); and if we could define a few supported flagships (thinking out loud example: the last 2-3 years of top selling Samsung flagships and Google Pixel phones?); many Google Play Store Review complaints are from old handsets with very old versions of Android.
2. Our colleagues in marketing (SUMO is part of marketing) have done a great job of marketing the speed of Quantum desktop. Unfortunately the nuances of: how the Quantum effort was desktop only, took years (1.5 or more!) and how Mozilla is a small organization are not clear to normal folks which is not unexpected!
3. Anytime we display snippets or push notifications to our users about anything non-non profit-ish including Pocket, people will object. It would be great if Fennec had the ability to turn off notifications in Firefox just like Firefox 59 for Desktop does. I will create a canned Google Play Review response for how to turn off Pocket suggested stories and how to turn off Android system notifications. (SUMO complaints about Pocket lean plumb notifications are covered in bug 1445722. Apply App Level Push Notifications Opt-out for Leanplum for Android Users is bug 1445798.)
