User Visible Changes to Thunderbird 7
Roland is compiling this page in order to compile a list of what has to be documented for Thunderbird 7
Changes
(numbered for convenience only, not in order)
-
The new mail notification system will now ignore folders with the following flags: Drafts, Queue, SentMail, Templates and Junk. This is bug 661239 which I believe will land in TB 7 - landed in TB7 on July 4, 2011- not a user visible change - TB5 hangs after "Do you wish to compact all local and offline folders to save disc space? - [GS], [also please see the compacthang tag in GS] possibly bug 673904 and possibly bug 605511 which has a patch for review
and possible landing in TB6 but more likely in TB7 orwhich has landed in TB 7 and TB 8, POSSIBLE WORKAROUND: compact manually option, reducing the size of folders, for unknown reasons, unchecking "Always ask..." doesn't always work, in this case force it off with the mail.purge.ask pref - full details in comment 18 of bug 605511 - Build support to install hyphenation patterns in Thunderbird - [bug 677347 for Thunderbird] and bug 677254 in SeaMonkey and bug 253317 in Firefox - users will now get hyphenation suggestions in the spellchecker, and it'll take account of hypenations when checking spelling.
- Close Button added to Thunderbird About box - [bug 662051]
- Move splitter to be on top of the Format Toolbar when composing email - [bug 658872]
- Make the viewPickerPopup and folderLocationPopup look more native i.e. make View submenu items NOT black text on white background & stop menu items from "jumping" - [bug 658328]
- display account names in favorite folders pane view only when there are duplicated folder names and location info in the tooltip - [bug 649989] - separate bugs need to filed for other views
- Implement Bug 603790 in TB (remove the drop shadow and reduce border radius for buttons) - [bug 646570]
- intermittent "[SERVERBUG] UID FETCH Server error" on imap.mail.yahoo.com causes the deletion and redownload of all inbox messages - [bug 661774]
- Attachment Cleanup
- bug 657856 - Improve interface for attachment objects in the message reader
- bug 661263 - Attachment bar loses attachment number and name when action button is removed by toolbar customization
- bug 661993 - Forwarding emails as attachments doesn't record the message's size
- bug 662087 - Adding attachments via the command-line doesn't record their size
Thunderbird 6 and previous release regressions fixed in TB 7
(not in order, numbered for convenience)
-
Sort by Receiver or Sender name sorts by email address instead of actual name if showing only display name (Tools|Options|Advanced|Reading & Display "Show only display name for people in my address book" is checked) - UNCONFIRMED REGRESSION [GS1], [GS2], [GS3], I believe this is bug 672022 which hopefully will be fixed in TB7- [LANDED in TB7 and 8] -
Touchpad/trackpoint scrolling does not work with some versions of Synaptics drivers in Thunderbird 5- fixed in TB7, 8 (as well as Firefox 7) - [bug 538189], REGRESSION -
Thunderbird tags in a large folder like a bugmail folder sometimes get lost with Conversations add-on when archiving individual messages in a conversation, noticed in TB6 Beta 2 and 3, may have been around in TB5, may be CONDSTORE related since it happens with IMAP on mozilla.com i.e. Zimbra accounts- WORKAROUND Repair the folder, possible fix for people to try out who know how to backup their email i.e. who are beta software friendly, [bug 678148]. [fix has landed in TB 7 for bug 678148 but might not solve the issue completely] - similar issue with dovecot, [bug 675868] which turns out to be a dovecot issue which is fixed by upgrading to dovecot 1.1 -
Cannot print multiple mails anymore GS. WORKAROUNDS - Change mail.operate_on_msgs_in_collapsed_threads to false [bug 680446].- fix backed out, so printing should work in TB7 Beta 3, TB8, TB9 etc -
Thunderbird 6.0 ignores the Reply to List button on some list mails, other lists work.- [bug 675598]- REGRESSION - fixed in TB7

- the above are great for Thunderbird changes, but open question: how do we track gecko changes that surface themselves to the user in Thunderbird? Also wouldn't it be great to automate this so that properly tagged bugs and Get Satisfaction topics show up on the page automatically?
