STEEL is the Scriptable Thunderbird Easy Extension Library.

STEEL is a JavaScript Library designed to help developers build extensions for Thunderbird using terminology and interfaces that are familiar to them. STEEL is new in Thunderbird 3 and is not planned to be backported to Thunderbird 2

STEEL is a FUEL-like set of interfaces to facilitate Thunderbird extension designed to make it easier for extension developers to be productive, by minimizing some of the XPCOM formality and adding some "modern" JavaScript ideas. We want to start with areas that will provide the most benefit.
