Mark Surman: we're turning a corner moving from talking mostly about the web site, to around the projects themselves

Mike Haggerty: releasing an open source crowdsourcing platform has been researching ways communities come together and share trying to tap wisdom of crowds, economy of ideas that spreads out social capital, idea generation / recognition, parts of what people do

Challenge Trellon faces: similar to what Drumbeat is trying to achieve talking about ways feedback is generated, what it means to be a member, the currency that operates within Drumbeat how certain ideas and people rise above others what kind of automated tools can be put in place that can help identify active users, etc? one other question: how does work on open crowd align with Drumbeat? would love it if work could tie in directly

Projects: London design festival

Lessons for Drumbeat: more automation around what gets promoted users complained that when they put ideas in didn't get visibility after certain time frame a lot of duplication of effort most high-profile users was upset about way some of these things played out

Question: how many platforms engage people in working on project right on the platform?

Many do the work directly on the platform Services like 99designs is a high-profile example that folks love Widgets as way of enabling work that happens both on the platform and beyond it GetSatisfaction.com: everything is done through use of widgets

Drumbeat: embeddable widgets at Drumbeat more we can expand boundaries more successful going to be extend boundaries to other web sites, Drumbeat widget they can share info about the project John Snow -- could do some interesting things with widgets plus meaningful metrics

support existing projects that are outside of Drumbeat itself no code repositories may be important to add more feedback tools for Phase2 (could use GetSatisfaction for example) Probably be certain projects that would benefit from more tools

Mark: Crowdsourcing doesn't necessarily capture it, but "open source" Are there things more from an open source practises that are different from "crowd sourcing"

David: segmenting users based on how new they are into a project treat experience of new users differently
