Schedule Update
- crazy last few days
- beta 7 didn't ship
- issue with the Windows builds, only a partial sign off
- => we need a watchdog to detect this
- the Hello uplifts broke Hello
- => we backout all the changes and we will ship Hello without the recent changes
- however, we are planning to test all the changes on 46 and use Go faster
- issue with the Windows builds, only a partial sign off
- beta 8 (aka beta 7 build2) built Sunday
- sign off by SV on Monday
- Update disabled because by an important crash quickly ( bug 1248489 )
- beta 9 built yesterday (Monday)
- Ask SV to not do anything (both desktop & android)
- waiting for the patches to be backout
- update plan:
- build beta 9 build2 Tuesday
- sign off beta 9 Wednesday
- beta 10 remains the same (gtb thursday)
- Stability rate
- Don't panic
- an e10s experiment is clouding the force (has been disabled yesterday instead of Feb 25). Btw, this is making me sad.
- We took many stability fixes since beta 6 and this is still the release that our users run. We have still two builds planned and we can make a third if needed
- However, to be clear, we will delay 45 if needed (cancelling is not the table: 45 is an ESR)
Add-ons
Stability
Aurora
- Overall rate: 2.6 - browser: 1.9, content: 0.7 - red
- bug 1248489, bug 1232229, bug 1245743 are top crash signatures, followed by bug 1245386 and bug 1233944
- fix/uplift coming for that shutdown click-to-call crash bug 1247432,
- backouts for shutdown hang issue from beta 8 (1248489) tracked here: 1250424 (10x higher than #2 topcrash, which is the same issue)
Beta
- Overall rate: 1.5 - browser: 1.4, content: 0.1 - red
- In general, we are deep in the red and we haven't had much data on any new build with fixes since b6, so we should not expect to miracalously be good within the next few days, which puts the 45 schedule in serious jeopardy.
- bug 1248489 (sanitize aborts) were already a concern before and now spiked really high, ~40-50% of crashes, in b7/b8 data (manual downloads and early updaters) - backouts were done to the state of the 43 train, for b9 build2
- FWIW, we found out that sanitize on shutdown has probably not been working rightfor quite some time as we often kill the process with shutdownhang before sanitize is finished
- networking-related shutdownhangs dropped a lot in that data though.
- bug 1247380 (gfxContext::PushGroupAndCopyBackground) seems fixed in b8
- bug 1232229 (FinalizeTypedArenas) is still 3.5% of b8 crashes
- See this for a comparison between top crashes in b6 and b8: https://crash-analysis.mozilla.com/rkaiser/datil/searchcompare/?common=product%3DFirefox%26process_type%3Dbrowser%26process_type%3Dcontent&p1=version%3D45.0b6&p2=version%3D45.0b8
Release
- Overall rate: 1.1 - yellow
- shutdownhangs are a rate of 0.3 and continue rising significantly week to week, they were at ~0.2 a month ago.
Mobile
- mobile crash rates actually look decent on all channels when compatred to the last few releases (though still significantly above the levels of Firefox 40 for Android)
