Add-ons
Stability
[marcia]
- Apple released the third beta for 10.13 (17A306f) and Firefox is pretty crashy (some kernel level crashes as well). Here are some of the bugs filed:
- Stylo is now pref'able on Windows and Linux, so we are seeing more crashes.
- the TelemetryEnvironment field is now available as a public field, and you can see it on the individual crash report page in crash-stats. For example: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/d59d9adb-7baf-48eb-9661-6f7c40170711#tab-metadata
- Devs have requested we preface the crash report with stylo: if it has been pref'd on by the user
- jet: stylo is preffable on mac too as of today (What is the pref?)
Nightly
awsy rate: 2.67 (browser: 1.56, content: 1.11) telemetry (m+c-s) from saturday: 7.27 (last week: 22.72, this time last cycle: 5.54)
- Nightly has been on a downward trend since July 6th
- New uptime page for crashes: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Platform/Uptime/NightlyCrashTriage/2017Q3
- https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1376979 - Around 20% of Nightly 55 users have not updated to version 56
Beta
awsy rate: 0.94 (browser: 0.71, content: 0.23) telemetry (m+c-s) from saturday: 4.66 (last week: 4.93, this time last cycle: 4.0)
[marcia]
- #5 Top crash in Beta 7 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1377277 appears to be a shutdown hang
[philipp] 55.0b7:
- Various unassigned JS startup crash signatures; likely regressing from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654190 - 2.5% of browser crashes
- (Unassigned) Crashes with Firebug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1373220 - 1.9% of browser crashes
- (Unassigned) Crashes with McAfee SiteAdvisor: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1376514 - 1.8% of browser crashes
- they replied they are going to roll out a fix this week to their newest version; only a fraction of users is using that latest one though, so we may look into blocklisting the rest of them
- (Assigned) Intel graphics driver crashes with gfx.direct3d11.allow-intel-mutex on: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1359416 - 1.8% of browser crashes
- gfx team prefers blocklisting affected devices instead of turning the pref off but no patch yet
- (Assigned) Crash in [@ strnlen]: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1352916 - 1.1% of browser crashes
- stalled; correlations partly point to external interference by av software
- (Assigned) Crash in [@ LongestPhaseSelfTime]: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1366217 - 0.8% of browser crashes
- diagnostic asserts for this have landed on nightly
- (Assigned) Crash in [@ js::Scope::clone]: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1367896 - 0.8% of browser crashes
- diagnostic asserts for this have landed on nightly
- (Unassigned) JS https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1367727 - 0.6% of browser crashes
Release
awsy rate: 0.75 (browser: 0.53, content: 0.22) telemetry (m+c-s) from saturday: 2.88 (last week: 3.23, this time last cycle: 2.46)
[marcia]
- Explosiveness report is quiet - https://crash-analysis.mozilla.com/release-mgmt/2017-07-10/2017-07-10.firefox.release.explosiveness.html
- https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1347984 is still high volume, and as Liz notes inspires some angry comments. On release this is correlated to Avast. Based on this volume should we do some outreach?
- looks fixed/no longer present in 55
Mobile
awsy rate - release 0.56, beta 1.20, nightly 1.49
[marcia]
- Nightly
- Android nightly builds were missing this weekend so therefore there is not much crash data
- https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1365205 is top crash on Nightly but needs STR
- Beta
- https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=760394 is high on both Beta and Release but likely not much we can do about it
