Reflashing a Mobinnova

Requirements

  • A Mobinnova netbook
  • SD card
  • Mozilla Intranet access, to obtain OS images. Sorry.

Reflashing

  1. Copy the files from the "SD OS Update" dir, in the latest image from here, and put them in the root of the SD card. Insert into netbook.
  2. Shutdown the netbook by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
  3. Press the power button to turn it back on. As soon as the boot logo appears, immediately tap the spacebar (the timing here can be tricky, if this doesn't work try holding down the spacebar after powerup?)
  4. You'll get a text mode Boot menu.
  5. Select "J" to "download ALL from SD card"
  6. Wait for it to finish flashing ("Download Success ..." shown.)
  7. Hold down power button to turn it off.
  8. If flashing to an updated OS image, repeat the above steps with the Embedded Controller image.

Reflashing on Oban board

Requirements

  • A Windows desktop with USB.
  • An Nvidia Oban development kit (big green circuitboard)
  • Mozilla Intranet access, to obtain drivers and OS images. Sorry.

Reflashing

  1. Connect the Tegra device to a Windows XP machine via USB
  2. Download the Nvidia driver and unzip it.
    1. Note: on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will need to reset permissions on the extracted "usbpcdriver" folder to remove encryption and the read-only attribute; you can do this by selecting Properties > Attributes Advanced... on the folder
  3. Download the latest OS image from here, and unzip.
  4. Make sure Oban board is physically connected with USB, and has booted up.
  5. Press and hold the FRC button, then press and hold the RST button, then release RST, then release FRC. (These buttons are on the corner of the board by power switch.)
  6. If this is the first time you've done this, wait for Windows to prompt for installing a new device (if you're running in VMWare, make sure the "NVidia APX" USB device is connected to the VM). Don't do the Windows "automatic" install -- select the "have a disk" / "specific location" option and point it at the driver you downloaded ion step 1. After you've installed this driver once, you won't have to install it again when flashing in the future.
  7. Open up the folder from the unzipped OS image.
  8. Double-click the "nvflash_oban_nokitl.bat" icon to run the flasher.
  9. You should see a bunch of output and progress in the console that opens. Takes less than a minute to finish.
  10. The device will reset itself, and boot into the updated OS. Done!
