Firefox 3.0.x

Firefox 3.1 Development

Development Update

Daily users (weekly average across versions)

  • 3.1b2/3 - 500,000
  • Shiretoko - 8,000 (may be due to renumbering strangeness)
  • Minefield - 10,000

Beta 3

  • shipped last Thursday - yay!
  • many add-ons weren't compatible at launch, we heard that pretty loudly
  • Firefox 3.1 Beta3 RRRT page isn't showing anything concerning

Re-versioning to 3.5

  • will be renaming 3.1 -> 3.5 to indicate increased scope
  • changes underway

Beta 4

  • string freeze: Thursday, March 19th at 23:59 PDT
  • code freeze: Monday, April 6th
  • QA start: Wednesday, April 8th
  • release: week of April 13th
  • blizzard was concerned about the number of video blockers - number's gone up a bit, but roc thinks it's well scoped and contained

Localization

QA

  • beta 3 shipped last tuesday
    • 50 1.9.1 bugs verified last week
    • A successful b3 testday with 37 participants and 426 testcases ran on 3/13
    • watching feedback channels
    • Comprehensive FFT tests are being ran across XP/osx/Linux this week
  • Fx3.0.7 -> 3.1b3 MU Trial Run testplan
    • No blockers found yet, results in the wiki
    • ETA completion thursday 3/19
  • beta 4 testplan in works
    • estimate is four days of work

Release Engineering

  • 3.0.7 -> 3.1b3 fake major update delivered to QA
  • 3.1 -> 3.5 version bump went smoothly
  • Build machine issues kept trees closed for many hours yesterday. Things are better (but not fully resolved) today, being tracked in bug 483896.

Add-Ons

  • Many of the popular add-ons have updated to Fx 3.1b3 or higher
  • 14 recommended add-ons have not updated. Have reached out to them directly
  • 3.1b4pre is now 3.5b4pre and 3.2a1 is 3.6a1 with a database update
  • We'll work with the firefox team to automatically update add-on maxvers to 3.5*

  • Firefox 3.5 documentation is complete, barring unexpected issues cropping up, or any last-minute changes required.

Marketing/PR

  • Firefox Start page snippets starting to be in rotation in many locales
  • new beta download page
