Gecko 1.9 Roundtable
- Performance followup
- Windows 30% perf win (thanks Stuart!)
- Mark working on Linux -- pango problems
- Should create patches for Pango
- Will probably need to write a Xft fast-path
- Mac has 15% performance regression just for Cocoa widgets; need to get handle on that first
- Performance testing
- Most trunk perf loss is due to cairo (we think, need to be certain)
- Might be able to get outside help to generate new modern pageset
- How fast do we want? What is good enough?
- There are edge cases (e.g. session restore of a large session)
- No regressions is a hard limit
- gcc visibility issues
- patch went in to gcc trunk, will become gcc 4.2
- but that introduced a bunch of new issues
- could get significant startup time benefits
- Reflow branch coming along
- bz to fix form controls
- builds usable, modulo form controls
Firefox 3
- Fx3 Goals
- Sherman at Jury Duty, put off until next week
Any other business
- Supporting Vista: should we be building 2000/XP and Vista versions for Fx3? should we be leveraging the new User Access Control? (beltzner)
- Take advantage of process separation (unprivileged by default, some tasks at higher priority)
- Need someone to investigate -- dveditz maybe?
- Auto-update needs to be tested with Vista and fixed if necessary
- Someone needs to own "Firefox on Vista"
