PRD Status Update

  • Perma Links: Current PRD & Detailed Feature List & Firefox Next Requirements.
  • Outstanding Change Requests to review.
  • Retention Requirements - please add them to the PRD as applicable.
  • Disable insecure extension updates by default bug 378216 and Extension updates should link to further information bug 297903 should be added to the PRD.
  • Support reading in a localizable string with a partner name (INST-005a) - Needs more detail as to where this string will be used in the ui.

Open Action Items

  • Add visual indication to browser UI when Add-on updates are available (ADD-003a) needs bug 347585 implemented
    • underway: beltzner and mconnor currently arguing about whether or not it's necessary
      • Going to try nsIAlertService as a low-impact notification

Schedule

  • Proposed Schedule
    • post M8 we're frozen for new features, meaning that we'll continue planned implementation work and new UI (beyond polish) will land post M8, under tight driver control; mconnor to publish a list of this set of activities ASAP.
  • Current BMO report for blocking-firefox3+

Work in progress

  • Web-based protocol handling (PH team)
    • patch to move the rest of the RDF code from native nsExternalHelperAppService to JS nsHandlerService (bug 393492) landed in M8 (myk)
    • patch for new Applications prefpane (bug 377784) landed in M8 (myk)
    • tracking five regressions as blockers and 18 followup bugs as dependencies on bug 377784 (myk)
    • feature complete (dmose)
    • M8 to ship with default web-based test webcal: handler
  • Microformats (mkaply)
    • Backend/API needs sr from smedberg
      • action: mconnor to follow up, dispensation to be given since it's not hooked up to anything in the UI
  • Places (Places team)
  • Download Manager
    • cross-session stuff is finished, will land when tree unfreezes
    • still waiting on bug 395205 and bug 395207 for pause/resume
  • Storage (sdwilsh)
    • SQLite 3.4.2 will be taken once the tree re-opens
  • Password Manager (dolske)
  • Addons Manager (Rob Strong, Mossop, mwu)
    • all blockers landed for M8, including a quick regression
    • rstrong's got a lot of pending work
    • feeling is that things are on track

    • M8 blockers complete
    • AUS updates required before landing the very last piece, which will go for M9

    • badware blocking page landed ([test page here] )
    • ongoing negotiation with stopbadware.org to get lists hooked up

    • mconnor and beltzner to publish and track list of 20 UX issues and 5 delight issues that will be fixed for Firefox 3
    • now is the time to start ensuring bugs are filed (or beltzner is emailed) on polish issues, wording issues, etc.
  • Theming/Visual Makeover
    • should have Mac theme stuff to show for comment end of this week
    • Alex has been putting together a list of [new icons in Firefox 3] so we can get new ones made for all OSes

    • mfinkle: just wants to make sure it doesn't fall through the cracks
    • beltzner: make sure it's nominated, as I think we want to take it

  • Approval 1.9? for bug 346189 / attachment 278345 requires discussion as it adds new CSS properties for stacks. Results: Discussion resulted in waiting on this feature add as it is past the feature freeze and no one presented compelling reasons to break the freeze.
