this is updated 2010 plan for the Mozilla Foundation team - june 2010. see also, Q2, Q3 and Q4 plans
Top level goals:
- Mozilla Drumbeat. Introduce Drumbeat to the world. Build projects and community.
- Mozilla Story. Strengthen Mozilla as leading public charity protecting the open Internet.
- Mozilla Core. Find simple and novel ways to make the existing Mozilla community more productive, cohesive and understandable.
Objectives, activities and metrics for each of these goals are included below.
1. Mozilla Drumbeat
Goal: Introduce Drumbeat to the world. Build projects and community.
Objective #1: Find projects that excite us. Mostly from people we don't know yet.
- 3 - 5 bootstrap projects that demo Drumbeat well established, effective. (MS,HM)
- 3 rounds of demos of Web Made Movies open video lab, popcorn.js 0.5. (BG)
- 5 P2PU fall semester courses, competency and credits system in beta. (PS)
- Polished Universal Subtitles 1.0 toolset, 5 partners deploying. (NR)
- 2 additional bootstrap projects established in Europe or Brasil. (HM)
- Volunteer opportunities feeding Mozilla Engagement, people participating. (MT + projects)
- Platform established to pull in large # of project ideas. (MT,HM)

Objective #2: Establish events a way to explain Drumbeat, recruit participation.
- Community run Drumbeat events in at least 20 cities. (AG,NJ)
- More than one event + project work in 5+ cities. (AG,NJ)
- Drumbeat local organizer kit completed and in use. (AG,NJ)
- 2010 Drumbeat Festival on 'Learning, Freedom and the Web' theme. 300+ people. (MS??)
Objective #3: Build a flexible online platform for Drumbeat projects and events.
- Effective platform for hosting projects, soliciting support. (MT,PO)
- Effective platform for organizing local events. (NJ,PO)
- Reliable and flexible infrastructure to send newsletters and raise funds. (PO,KG)
- Drumbeat story clear from content on drumbeat.org. (MT)
2. Mozilla Story
Goal: Strengthen Mozilla as leading public charity protecting the open Internet.
Objective #1: Inspire people to engage and donate to the Mozilla cause
- Create an incentive program built around t-shirts (5000 T-shirts sold) (CN)
- Create donations programs to coincide with Mozilla product release launches (CN, DB)
- Increase donor and subscriber base (17k donors 35k newsletter) (CN)
- Increase percentage of recurring donors (CN)
- Maximize traffic opportunities to donation/campaign pages (CN, DB)
Objective #2: Explain Mozilla as a cause. Make our story easy to understand.
- Annual Report (interactive) produced in collaboration with other Mozilla organizations. (CN)
- Describe and distill what Mozilla does and why it matters in lay language (MS,BG)
- Make www.mozilla.org a top-tier community site. (DB)
- Help the community transition to an integrated One Mozilla story. (DB)
- Create Mozilla mission media monitoring report (CN)
3. Mozilla Core
Goal: Find simple and novel ways to make the existing Mozilla community more productive, cohesive and understandable.
Objective #1: Bring new members in to the community
- Identify, triage and address stumbling blocks in new contributor process. (DB, AM)
- Continue to run and grow Mozilla Education initiative.
Objective #2: Help existing community members be more productive
- Support continued improvements to the Mozilla Project governance structure
- Identify, triage and address important community concerns and blockages, e.g.
- Create Mozillians.org to enable community members to know each other better.
