Software Freedom Day Orientation

Date: 13th August 2013 Time: 12:30 pm (GMT +5.45) Venue: Himalaya College Of Engineering Premises

With Software Freedom Day coming near (September 2013), and as a supporter of open web, We in co-ordination with the HCOE Developers Circle conducted a pre-Software Freedom Day event at college. There were about 20 students from Computer Engineering annd Electronics Engineering.

Members from FOSS-Nepal came as speakers and really made the event a win win! First, the speakers described about the Open source culture, and the evolution of open source, which was followed by the introduction to Software Freedom Day. They also told us about, "Why open source"? and the distinction between "Free", "Open Source", and "Proprietery".

After the session of Software Freedom Day and a bit of history about FOSS and FOSS-Nepal, (which also included references to mozilla's Open Web initiative and Firefox OS), we learned about how to use wikipedia, and why to use wikipeida.

Overall, we discussed why things should be open, and everyone enjoyed being it!
