Minutes
review actions from previous meeting
- dietrich to get results from BrowserID performance test runs and post them to BrowserID wiki page
- dietrich got results for Hello World addon, and there were a couple of minor regressions, but nothing major
- there's a shutdown regression, but it isn't clear that our shutdown performance tests are measuring the right things
- we need to configure the branch to do multiple test runs of performance tests
- dietrich to talk to build team about performance test run issues
- dietrich contacted them several times but hasn't received a response
- -> myk to talk to joduinn about who can tackle performance test automation issues
- davida to figure out who on identity team will be driver for l10n
- davida sent email to ben and thunder
- it should probably be lloyd, but no definitive response
- mixedpuppy and davida to figure out who from the various feature teams should participate in these meetings
- Identity: contacted folks, still working on figuring it out
- Sharing: dietrich, mixedpuppy, and davida met and agreed to ask PMs to prioritize it
- Apps: still working on figuring it out
- -> davida to talk to Bill Walker about point person for Apps
- myk to report back on the specifics of Jetpack's l10n plan
- myk to identify and propose short-term plan to localize these features
- myk proposed using .properties files and string bundles for strings in code
- myk proposed four options for localizing HTML pages, still gathering feedback and investigating options
- dietrich to identify review concerns based on Test Pilot post mortem
- dietrich identified both review concerns and bundling issues
- bundling issues
- can feature addons be uninstalled
- can feature addons be updated from AMO
- would core code ever depend on addons
- bundling decisions might vary on a per-addon basis
- review concerns
- code that ships with Firefox, including Jetpack platform code and addon feature code, has to be reviewed
- we have to grow the review corps to include the folks doing feature development to maintain momentum
- how to transition from review policies appropriate at an experimental stage to those for the production stage of a project
- Firefox team adopting policy that all members are reviewers
- dietrich to send a message to working group about mechanics of plan
- dietrich sent a message to dev.planning
- got feedback from Songbird, SeaMonkey folks who had/have been doing this for a while
- no one has addressed testing nor l10n stuff in a particularly modelable way
- myk to figure out where besides these meetings working group discussions should be taking place
- #fx-team IRC channel
- dev.apps.firefox newsgroup/mailing list/Google Group
schedules and deadlines
- clee and asa putting together 2012 roadmap with dates
- they may not be final but should be an indication of when product team would like to see these things ship in firefox
- Sharing: six months ago
- Identity: person to ask is thunder
- Apps: no idea who the right person is to ask
- -> dietrich to ask about schedule determiner for Apps at Apps brownbag today
- there is contention between teams about what Apps functionality should land, when it should land, and where it should land
- B2G team intends to ship Apps APIs in Firefox 10
- status and priority of Apps features on desktop browser is unclear
Firefox China Edition experience
- China Edition approach to shipping addons is very different from what we want to do
- net installer is Windows-only
- addons downloaded at install time
- no performance testing
- thus interesting but not necessarily relevant
addon hotfixes
- we should all read and think about addon hotfix proposal
Actions
- -> myk to talk to joduinn about who can tackle performance test automation issues
- -> davida to talk to Bill Walker about point person for Apps
- -> dietrich to ask about schedule determiner for Apps at Apps brownbag today
