Non-English based l10n efforts are on the rise, what do we do?

Proposed by
Jeff
Overview
Starting with the Azerbaijani localization and the efforts of Mozilla Mexico to localize Firefox into native Mexican languages, we're beginning to see an increase in localization teams who do not use English as their source language for localizing Firefox. We need to discuss the impact of these teams on the l10n program, the role of English as a source language for localizing Firefox and other Mozilla projects, and how to accomodate this new trend.

Allowing localizers to see their impact through ADI metrics

Proposed by
Jeff
Overview
L10n hackathons in 2015 have revealed that localizers have a keen interest in understanding how their localizations are being used. Many have noted that it is a primary motivating factor to keep them involved in l10n. Since the demise of the localizer report and the move to Tableau, localizers have no visibility into how regularly their localizations are being used.

Making Firefox, Fennec, Fx iOS localizations more discoverable for end-users

Proposed by
Jeff
Overview
Another piece of feedback from l10n hackathons in 2015, discovering localized Mozilla products can be difficult for an end user. We've come up with some ideas of how to solve this and have ideas from the community this as well.

Updating Langpacks in Firefox OS 3.0

Proposed by
stas
Overview
Langpacks are webapps which provide l10n resources for specific versions of other, target apps. When a target app is updated the l10n resources provided by any installed langpack for the previous version become outdated. Let's discuss the mechanics of how (and if) language packages should be updated when their target apps are updated. https://github.com/stasm/spec/blob/master/langpack-updates.markdown

Reviving language asset projects (style guides, terminology, etc.)

Proposed by
Jeff & Peiying
Overview
A couple of years ago we made a concerted effort to promote the creation of language assets for Mozilla localization projects. With the development of FUEL, transvision, Pootle, and even MDN, we should evaluate how to efficiently revive this project and utilize all of the tools and resources at our disposal.

If we could get reps to help with l10n effort. 2). Evaluate possible hybrid model of working with contract service with community involvement to fulfill contractual obligations to partners.

"I am an island" localization

Proposed by
Jeff
Overview
There are two trends we are noticing within l10n communities. 1) All of the work is funnelling from a wider community to one localizer. 2) One localizer becomes the blocker to the community's growth and stability either because of personality conflicts or lack of recruitment, mentorship, and community expansion. This is affecting both small and large localization efforts, each requiring a different plan of action. This session is to come up with these plans of action, identify affected l10n teams, and determine how to apply these plans to each team.
