Agenda/Notes

The MDN community meeting takes place in the #mdn channel on irc.mozilla.org at:

Introductions

Since lots of people lurk in #mdn, if you're actively attending the meeting please speak up and introduce yourself.

Attending:

  • chrismills
  • dvincent
  • jeremie
  • jswisher
  • teoli

Help wanted

Please share documentation bugs that need work, or other things where you need short-term help.

Bugs Ahoy

Jsx set up "Bugs Ahoy" to display mentored documentation bugs. These are easy or average documentation tasks.

Easy: http://www.joshmatthews.net/bugsahoy/?mdn=1&simple=1 All : http://www.joshmatthews.net/bugsahoy/?mdn=1

If you are interested in one of them, request in it to be put as 'Assigned". You can needinfo/ the mentor listed in it for any question you have.

We add new bugs there on a weekly basis.

"Document all the interfaces" project

For 2016, we have a plan to have all Web API documented (the interfaces at least, not necessarily every methods and properties).

We have a list of missing interfaces: https://trello.com/c/moarkRdc/237-document-missing-interface-pages-partial

This is an intermediate-level work, so if you are interested in helping teoli can assign you some interfaces. Please do make contact before starting to work on anything — we would like to avoid duplication of effort.

Request in the meta bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1239267

Learning area

  • Chris has taken over the mantle from Jeremie. I am your god now! /jk
  • I have started reviewing current material, and making plans for what needs to be done next
  • See the Mozilla Curriculum Team plan for more information.
  • This is part of the overarching Mozilla curriculum project; my team on this also includes Emma from participation and Steph from Mozilla science lab, allowing us to work out what content needs we have outside MDN's scope, where they can be hosted, etc.
  • Participation welcome!
  • Feedback also wanted; most pressing ones right now are:

Removing HTML4/5 badges and decorations

Sebastian is working on getting rid of HTML4/5-related badges to make it easier for HTML element pages to use tables instead of links, though they should contact Jean-Yves before doing so to avoid conflicts. (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1214589.)

Blockers

Is there anything keeping you from making progress?

What are you working on?

Please share recent accomplishments, and goals you have for the next few weeks.

[Chris Mills]

  • See above! Mainly learning area
  • Also working out what to do about Firefox OS and associated content (e.g. Marketplace), in light of the FxOS/connected devices reshuffle.
    • Marketplace looks to be shutting down gradually
    • They are already removing desktop/android as a distribution target, so the docs need to be updated in light of this. [ACTION, Chris: set up a bug for this]
    • Myk Melez keeping me updated on related happenings

[Danielle]

  • Back to work next week

[Janet]

  • Attending the participation leadership summit in Singapore, along with Ali
  • As part of this trip, they are meeting with Mozilla Japan community members, to bolster MDN's community relations in Asia

[Jean-Yves]

  • Closed a lot of dev-doc-needed and give a hand to jsx' BugsAhoy by mentoring some more bugs
  • My goal in the next few weeks are:
    • to have more tasks ready to share with the community
    • set up a public dashboard with statistics about doc requests we get and ones we close. More transparency!

[Jeremie]

  • Has been swamped with doing research for the BrowserCompat project. He aims to provide more concrete info and plans by the end of the month.

Anything else we need to discuss synchronously?

  • Who will moderate the next meeting?

Jean-Yves and Janet both offered to moderate the next meeting, so they can agree it among themselves.
