Why?
- “Sharing is a key piece of mobile, as it should be for the browser”
- Discoverability of sharing is a problem, and we submit delegation of sharing features to add-ons
- Firefox browser can be (and should be) a continuous user experience, and social can be a key component of that
- Increases ADIs because sharing with friends about what you’re doing is Free marketing, plus improved usage due to a trusted recommender (your friend)
- Increases ADIs because sharing with friends about using firefox
What are one or two things this week we can do?
- Sync up with desktop regarding social APIs so we can plan and predict the future of social in mobile
- What can we do to sync up with/mimic desktop
- Explore UI opportunities to elevate sharing to a primary experience
- Tweeting/fb review solicitation follow-up with Ian
- Case study of successful social browsers (Rockmelt, comes to mind)
Cool ideas
- NFC sharing
- “Social Network Friend graph” to connect real life friends, and elevate behavior. For example, friends connected on twitter would have a dedicated Firefox tab that surfaced one another’s links.
- Better UI to support simple, one touch sharing
- In-browser chat features
- Become a “platform intermediary” for social: acting as an simple go-between to handle social links that cannot be handled by other Android applications
