MozCampEU2012/From Code to Features
Title of Session: From Code to Features: Scale Up Your Contributions and Be Happy
Facilitator: Paolo Amadini
Are you paid or volunteer staff?: Paid
Area of Contribution: Firefox Team
How are you currently involved with the community?: I'm a developer who helps in improving Firefox. Among other things I work on the Downloads Panel, and in my free time I also maintain the Mozilla Archive Format add-on.
Location of Work: Italy
Talk Length: 30 minutes
Summary: Even when you're already involved in coding, it's not always easy to organize your work and coordinate with others, especially when you start contributing to larger features. Reviewers ask you for perfect code, while designers tend to experiment with different solutions frequently. Responding to user feedback and questions requires more and more of your limited time. How can you handle this efficiently?
This session builds upon the successful talk on Feature Pages and coordination strategies held at FOSDEM, adding more practical details and resources that can be helpful to people who are already involved with Mozilla.
How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals:
Working happily and efficiently on larger features is fundamental to scale up coding contributions in Mozilla. The aim of this session is to provide some practical advice that can be applied to many products and situations.
Expected Outcome or Deliverable:
- Raise awareness about Feature Pages and coordination strategies.
- Allow more people to go from fixing individual bugs to building larger features.
- Possibly, work with the audience actively to build high-quality Feature Pages.
Desired Audience Type or Skill-set:
- Developers who work on larger features or want to work on one.
- People who are just curious about our design and coordination practices.
Equipment Needs (Video projector already included): No additional needs
