Greetings from Mozilla Bangladesh
We are glad to inform you that, Mozilla Bangladesh and United International University (UIU) is organizing a "Mozilla Awareness Campaign" in United International University (UIU). It would be an opportunity for the students and percipient to share their innovative idea and concept; also to know about new open web technologies.

Event update: 27th July 2012
Event Background: Mozilla Hacktivity took place on the scheduled evening at the auditorium of the United International University (UIU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This public event was organized by Mozilla Bangladesh community in association with United International University Computer Club.
Goal of the event: 1) The principal goal of this event was to aware people about the Mozilla Projects, it's open source collaborative development model and how individuals or organizations can contribute to the projects for building a better web.
2) To ignite new contributors from different arena including the youngstars from the university.
3) Share the ideas and initiatives to create a bridge among the growing Mozilla open source community in Bangladesh.
Beginnings of the event...
Although the event was supposed to start at 03:00PM, was delayed about half an hour due to traffic jams.
Mahay Alam Khan, the key person of Mozilla Bangladesh community, warmly welcome the participants and started the event with his presentation "Getting involved with Mozilla". He enlighten the audience about the past and present of Mozilla Foundation, Mozilla Corporation and their activities, Mozilla Bangladesh's history & recent news updates.
Mashkawat Ahsan talked about Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla Reps Program, BugZilla, Mozilla Webmaker, BrowserID, SpiderMonkey and so on. He also showed slides and talked about getting involved with Mozilla in various ways, for both coders and non-coders. He had a hard time answering the lot of questions from the audience.
Rahid Hasan Robin presented about "Code contribution in Mozilla". He scared half of the audience off with his step by step tutorial on contributing to Mozilla code! It was very informative and the core interesting part of the event. He demonstrated the Mozilla Developers Network and compiled Firefox from source code on Ubuntu Linux. and also how a person can modify or do hacking into the codes.
The last session was done by Aniruddha Adhikary about Collaborative development on the web. He compared Distributed Version Control Systems (DVCS) with traditional VCS’s and show live demonstration of the details stuff with Git and Giggle. Also spoke on the importance of DVCS, how it helps to make project development better.
Excerpt:
More than hundred of active participants attended the event and most of them were from computer major. All the speakers encourage the audience to participate. The Q/A sessions of all the presentations were full of participation with lots of comments/ suggestions/ views/ query and so on. The participants also talk during the open discussion session at the end of the event. Students were very interested to know more about code contribution, graphics design and localization. Some were also interested about the Reps program.
Mozilla swag were distributed as gift among the audience and they liked the items. Booklets and DVDs of a localized GNU/Linux distribution was distributed to the participant by Ankur ICT Development Foundation. Snacks were served to the people who could stay till the end.
Special thanks to United International University, Akash (student of UIU), the volunteers from UIU, the ReMos from Bangladesh and all the other participants who made the event come alive!
After the event, we (ReMo) were honored by a meeting with the Department Head, CSE of United International University, held in the conference room of the university. We had a positive discussion about many topics and shared our views.
