Participation/Global Gatherings 2015/Singapore
Contents
Goals
The Leadership Summit is the 3rd gathering part of the Participation Leaders initiative. Overall, this initiative is aimed at developing 150 participation leaders who:
...have increased their knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to grow the impact of participation across Mozilla in 2016
...are aligned with and have contributed to Mozilla’s vision and strategy, and who will champion this with Mozillians and others
...have created and committed to specific plans for growing the impact of participation and contributing to Mozilla in 2016, aligned with the organization’s goals and priorities
Goals for the Leadership Summit:
1) Participation Leaders will feel prepared (skills, mindsets, network) and understand their role as leaders/mobilizers who can unleash a wave of growth in our communities, in impact and in numbers.
2) Participation Leaders will leave with action plans and commitments, specific to growing/evolving their communities and having impact on Firefox OS and a global campus campaign.
3) Everyone will leave feeling that “we’re doing this together.” Everyone attending (volunteer and staff Mozillians) will feel like a community that is aligned with Mozilla’s overall direction, and who now trust one another and have each other’s back.
Two additional goals for subsets of attendees:
1) Align all Reps around changes in the program, what’s expected of them, and what they can expect from Council and staff in 2016
2) Give the opportunity for volunteers in specific functional areas to build relationships with staff in those areas
Community Event Safety Guidelines (also called Code of Conduct)
The heart of Mozilla is people. This guideline is meant to support a happy, productive, and safe event experience that can welcome new ideas and inspiration for all attendees of Mozilla's Leadership Summit, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof).
We gain strength from diversity, and actively seek participation from those who enhance it. These guidelines exist to ensure that diverse groups collaborate to mutual advantage and enjoyment. We will challenge prejudice that could jeopardise the participation of any person in the project, and we outline in this document expected, as well as prohibited behavior.
We have named this document the Community Event Safety Guidelines, but will also refer to it as the Code of Conduct. If you are attending the Leadership Summit, please read and internalize this guideline: https://github.com/mozilla/participation-org/blob/master/global_events/leadership_summit/code-of-conduct.md
For those hosting events in their community, please feel free to remix this guideline.

Useful Information
Disembarkation / Embarkation Card
Foreign visitors arriving in Singapore are required to have a completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (or D/E card) for immigration clearance. (Click here to see a preview of the D/E Card) The D/E card is available at all Singapore checkpoints. Travellers arriving by air can obtain the card from the airlines or on board their flights to Singapore. Travellers arriving by land and sea can obtain it from their travel agents, bus companies and ferry operators.
Upon the grant of immigration clearance, the Disembarkation portion will be retained by the officer. The Embarkation portion will be returned to the visitor. An endorsement indicating the period that the visitor is allowed to enter and stay in Singapore is stamped on both portions of the D/E Card as well as on the passport.
When the visitor leaves Singapore, the Embarkation portion will be retrieved from the visitor.
Don't lose the Embarkation portion given to you after you leave immigration upon arrival, you will need it to board your return flight. More information
Power plugs
Voltage The standard voltage in Singapore is 220V/240V, 50 Hz. If you have equipment that runs on a higher voltage, you should not connect it to Singaporean power unless you have the correct transformer (voltage adaptor).
Power Plugs Singapore uses the British BS1363 three-pronged square pin type socket. Plugs from the US, Western and Eastern Europe, and Asia will not fit into a Singapore power plug.
If you need a plug adaptor or transformer, we advise buying one before your arrival. Some hotels will be able to lend you an adaptor, but not all. Also, if you bought new Power Splitter, make sure they fit in your plug adaptor.
SIM Card/ Data Plan
Singtel provides a plan for 15 SGD with
100GB Data
500 minutes - Local Calls
30 minutes - International Calls
100 Local SMS
The Plan lasts for 5 days, so it is perfect for the event - Singtel SIM Card
You can purchase it on RHB bank counter at airport. There's also a Singtel shop at level B1(-1) in the City Square Mall just outside the hotel (you'll need your password to register the SIM).
Currency
Singapore's currency is the Singaporean Dollar. you could check the value at oanda.com. At Dec. 17th, 1 US dollar is equivalent to 1,40788 SGD All major currencies are accepted at our 24-hour money changers at Airport. These established and reputable banks offer competitive exchange rates.
Customs
Singapore has strong regulations and taxes for alcohol and tobacco. We recommend that you don't bring alcohol to Singapore. Also, the quantity for tobacco is small:
«Tobacco is heavily taxed, and you are not allowed to bring more than one opened pack (not carton, but a single pack!) of cigarettes into the country. This is particularly strictly enforced on the land borders with Malaysia.»
If you need to take medicines which may only be obtained through prescription under the Singapore laws, especially sleeping pills, depressants, stimulants, etc, please carry with you a prescription from a physician confirming that these medicines are required for your physical well-being. There are severe penalties for the illegal possession of such medicines.
Please note that the following are considered Prohibited Goods to carry on while entering Singapore:
- Chewing gum
- Chewing tobacco and imitation tobacco products e.g. electronic cigarettes
- Cigarette lighters of pistol or revolver shape
Health Care
Tap water is safe for drinking, and sanitation standards are very high. As a tropical country, Singapore is hot and humid so drink a lot of water. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Singapore was way back in 1934, when it hit a low of 19.4°C (66.9°F).
Malaria is not an issue, but dengue fever is endemic to the region. Singapore maintains strict mosquito control (leaving standing water around will get you fined), but the government's reach does not extend into the island's nature reserves, so if you're planning on hiking bring along mosquito repellent.
Transportation
Getting from the Airport to the Hotel
To reach the hotel, there are two options:
- Airport shuttle:
The Ground Transport Desk is a 24-hour counter catered to handle all passengers’ transportation requests and queries. It is located in the Arrival Hall of each terminal (if you are arriving at Terminal 1 - head for Burger King - it is just past that). The airport shuttle bus provides drop-offs to most down-town hotels (not only big hotels, but also hostels and backpacker inns). The bus departs every 15 minutes during peak hours and up to 30 minutes during non-peak hours. Tickets cost $9 per adult and $6 per child below 12 years of age. The journey to the city center will take approximately 25 minutes under normal traffic conditions. They have 10% discount if you book via their website.
- MRT (Mass Rapid Transfer):
The nearest MRT Station to the hotel is Farrer Park (not Little India). So you will need follow this route: Changi Airport (green line) - Tanah Merah (green line, change to the MRT to the city) - Bugis (change to the blue line) - Little India (change to the purple line) - Farrer Park.
