Mozilla Presence provides a measure of a users liveliness to applications the user has chosen to share it with as well as a system that allows for lively notifications to be delivered to the user regardless of if the local application is running.
An application in this context is not the local application but a server application that Presence can contact on the Internet to convey the liveliness of users to. Server applications are assumed to have a website that can be 'installed' or a FFOS application counterpart that interacts with them.
