Support/Goals/SIG-toolkit
Purpose of the Goal
The SUMO SIG is there to get new contributors into SUMO, the members of that SIG will be our own SUMO reps. Michelle defined the roles within SUMO, but we also need to define what to do with our SUMO reps, how they can be the most useful.
With the SUMO reps getting new community members will be a 2 stage process:
- The SUMO reps attracting people to SUMO.
- New volunteers starting to contribute to SUMO
Currently we only have processes for the second part, when people are already interested and approach us by mail. We need the processes for the first part in this case, and that's the purpose of this goal.
Some of the things that need to be organized and put into place:
- Reps attending locale tech events
- Printing flyers for the booth
- Getting SUMO swag to reps
- There needs to be a plan for how to transition people in to SUMO, what the reps are supposed to do when they have somone interested etc.
- We need regular meetings with the reps, online and physical, to boost the team building and to learn about issues, exchange experience among them etc.
Toolkit
In order to help the Reps we will create a toolkit with documents and processes
Events
- Represent SUMO at events
- slide-decks
- engagement materials: flyers, brochures, (website)
- swag and process for requesting it
- guide: how to stay informed and in touch with local communities
- Organize SUMO events
- How to: organize a SUMO event:
- how to: organize a work sprint
- how to: organize a local contest or challenge
- how to: organize an “awesome bar”
- Work with Mozilla staff and shape the program
- channels for collecting Reps feedback and regional insights to SUMO team
- channels and regular meetings to share insights between Reps, evaluate and improve the program
Contribute Group
The contribute group provides a framework for creating strategies and materials with the purpose of growing the SUMO community. Reps can also be part of the contribute group and work closely with the stewards. The action plan of the SUMO contribute group entails complementary steps to the SUMO SIG toolkit, such as the audit of the existing channels, also necessary for the toolkit materials.
