Gesture Interface Ideas

Text Navigation

In addition to being able to select characters and words from the granularity menu, it'd be great to have a faster way to do navigation by both character and word, since this is so common. The user could hold one finger, then, using another finger, flick left/right to move by character and up/down to move by word. This would work both for reviewing, as well as to move the caret through navigable text.

Text Selection

Similar to text navigation. Two possibilities: 1. There would be a start/stop selection gesture; e.g. 2 finger hold. The user would do the start/stop selection gesture, do text navigation to select text, then do the start/stop selection gesture. 2. The user could tap and hold one finger, then do text navigation while holding the first finger.

Preventing Inadvertent Adjustment of Values

Due to the possibility of inadvertent adjustment, perhaps the user should have to double tap on an adjustable control before up/down adjusts the value. This would be consistent with editable text fields.
