Talk:L20n/Background
Axel, aren't the gender and count issues in l10n process to be solved through the i18n approach at the design stage? Just wanted to point out,the l20n seems to me a bit misleading.
I would call that an chicken-or-egg problem. Any architecture in that area can't really be only l10n or only i18n. --AxelHecht 08:25, 15 January 2007 (PST)
how does knowing the gender helps you? in hebrew, for example, there are different plural forms for male and female, but there are plenty of exceptions, of male objects that have the female plural forms (can't think of an opposite case now). i can recall cases where there was a male/female problem when translating to hebrew, e.g. in the mail advanced search dialog, where "priority" is female, but uses the "is" operator. this operator should also be in female form, but it is used also with other operands which are male. how would l20n solve that?
