So basically this is saying that to be a Mozilla developer or tester you must have Fedora Core 6 or later (or equivalent for other distros) installed, right?

Has someone considered doing a survey of how many current developers and testers will be affected by that requirement? I'm guessing not all that many in the end, but it would be good to have some hard numbers.

Fedora Core 6 meets the requirements except for cairo 1.4 (it has 1.2.6). Does listing cairo here as a runtime requirement mean that that using system cairo would be the default build option?

Please do not impose GNOME as a requirement - the Gtk/Pango/Cairo dependencies are manageable, but GNOME is a beast that many of us would rather avoid (and stick to KDE/Xfce). Thanks.

Sigh. Can we stop completely saying "Runtime" when "Buildtime" is meant? The -devel packages are *totally* not runtime requirements. If build time requirements need to be listed, that's fine but they should be on a page related to build time requirements and this is not that page! It's also be nice if this weren't an entirely one-sided discussion, but I guess I shouldn't have expected more from a wiki. --Ajschult

Is this going to cut Debian 4.0 "Etch" off in the next half a year? The libraries in question are (though they might contain a mix of newer versions in them...):

• libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-7
• GNOME is a mix of 2.14 and 2.16 packages, but libgnome2-0 is 2.16
• libcairo2 1.2.4-4

...and Minefield still works on Sarge (3.1), except that its logo is not rendered.

Will these requirements apply to Sun and BSD? Or any platform using Gtk2, for that matter?
