Test Day September 09, 2009

Test days are done to stress test specific features in a development version of Thunderbird, to identify its strengths and weaknesses. This test day we stress test new features prior to freezing the code which will later ship as Thunderbird 3 beta 4 (3.0b4).

We encourage you to participate, however be advised that we are testing with nightly builds. These have not yet gone through quality (QA) testing. Use at your own risk and protect your mail, data and profile with appropriate backups. On the positive side, several relatively stable version 3 early releases have been issued, and many people successfully use nightly builds on a daily basis without major problems or dataloss.

To keep informed of changes to this page, login to wiki and click this wiki page's Watch tab.

Prepare

Protect your data and consider using a test profile to avoid potential dataloss.

Focus and Testing

Using latest-trunk, test as follows and report all issues you find:

Two points of focus for this test day, our new search and the new way with which we create email accounts.

The new searh is architectured around a component that we call gloda.

  • Gloda - please enable Thunderbird:Using_Gloda it to be able to see the new search. Note that if you disable gloda - you should be back to the usual quick search that is available on thunderbird 3.0b3 and earlier versions.
    • Monitor :
      • Memory Usage
      • CPU usage
      • Activity monitor
    • Search your emails - and write down any issue start the summary with \[faceted search]:
    • Filter the results - and write down any issue
  • Autoconfig is by default for creating new accounts.
    • the database is not fully provisionned yet - we are working on that -
    • We already have a bunch of bugs for autoconfig - please check the list out before raising new ones.

The rest should not be the core of our focus - it's mostly been code fixes and code fixes and ..... code fixes. So if anything looks wrong - do a search in bugzilla and either comment on an existing bug. or add a new bug.

How to provide feedback

Both negative and positive feedback will be helpful. Please be clear, complete and specific in your descriptions. Choices:
