Thunderbird:Search:Use Cases

This is a list of the most common search use cases we are optimizing support for in the new Thunderbird:Search. This is not a complete list of all search use cases, for a complete list see Thunderbird:Search:All Use Cases

Find a Message Sent by a Persons Partial Name

Find mail sent to you using the partial name of a person who sent it. Possibly to forward the mail or reference the mail or gain the person's email address.

Current Example:

• quick search for "Mark" (in default type "Subject or From")

Find a Message You Sent to a Person by a Partial Name

Find a mail you sent by the partial name of the person you sent it to

Current Example:

• change type to "To or CC"
• quick search for "Jenn"

Find a Message Sent by a certain Domain or Company

Find mail sent to you using the partial name of a person who sent it.

Current Example:

• quick search for "Mark" (in default type "Subject or From")

Find an Attachment Sent by a certain Person

Find an attachment sent by a certain person name over mail to you.

Current Example:

• quick search for "Mike" (in default type "Subject or From")
• sort by attachments

Find an Attachment You Sent to a certain Person

Find an attachment sent by you over mail to a certain person.

Current Example:

• browse to Sent folder
• sort folder by attachments

Find a Conversation about a particular Topic

Find a message or thread of messages by it's subject or text

• quick search for "extensions" (in default type "Subject or From")
