Processing new applicants
As a Reps mentor it is your responsibility to review applicants from your region and guide them through the process of becoming a Mozilla Rep.
Your applicants
People interested in joining the program submit an application form that creates a bug for them in bugzilla. William and Pierros review these bugs and assign a mentor to screen them. When you’ve been assigned a new applicant to review you should receive an email with a link to the application bug. You can also search bugzilla to find all of the applicants assigned to you.
Initial screening
After you’ve read an application form, you have several choices:
- Accept the applicant
- Reject the applicant
- Interview the applicant
Interviewing an applicant
Setting up the interview
If you think the person is a strong candidate but you would like to get more information, email the applicant to set up an short interview on IRC at the soonest convenient time.

Once you’ve agreed on a time for the interview, set the Bug Whiteboard to: Meeting Scheduled
During the interview
Make sure to keep the interview short and not too formal. Here are examples of questions you might want to ask the applicant:
- When and why did you first start contributing to the Mozilla project?
- How much time do you spend contributing to the project every week on average?
- Are you comfortable speaking in public?
- Have you ever organised a community event before?
- Have you spoken to the press before?
- What would be the first project you'd work on if you became a MozillaRep?
- What do you do inside the community?
- What is Mozilla about for you?
- Have you ever explained Mozilla to other people? How?

Accepting an applicant

Once you’ve decided to accept an applicant to the program send them the acceptance email provided below. It includes links to the next steps as well as the agreement that must be signed and returned. There is a different agreement for applicants aged 14 - 17 which will need to be signed by a parent.

I'm thrilled to inform you that the Mozilla Rep council's accepted you into the program :) I've been assigned to be your program mentor meaning I'll be your main contact person for the program if you have any questions or concerns. I'll also help you get started and help monitor your activity in the program. So let's get right down to business! Here are the next steps for you in order to become an official Mozilla Rep are: • create a user profile (if you haven't already) on the ReMo wiki as outlined in the User Profile SOP [1] • sign up (if you haven't already) to the ReMo mailing list [2] • sign and return to me by email the Mozilla Rep Agreement [3] • read through and get familiar with all the ReMo tools [4] • read through and get familiar with all the SOPs [5] As soon as we have received your signed Rep Agreement, you're all set! Acceptance email for applicants aged 14 - 17
IMPORTANT: You may wish to notify the applicant’s parent that their child has been accepted into the program. This will confirm that the parent was aware of the application and rule out cases of an applicant forging their parent’s signature.

Rejecting an applicant

If you think that the applicant is not suitable to become a Mozilla Rep at this point, inform the council of your decision and make sure that there is no objection from anyone (NB: if the council is split on the applicant, a vote needs to be held). Then contact the person and inform them of the council's decision. You should encourage the applicant to become more involved in Mozilla and apply again if they’re still interested in the Reps program.

Based on the information you submitted, the Mozilla Rep council agreed that it is too early for you to apply to the program. Mozilla Reps is a program for Mozilla volunteers who have been active for some time in the project and have demonstrated strong leadership in their community. We encourage you to re-apply when you have gathered enough experience participating in the project. In the meantime, we encourage you to get in touch with [name of contact person of his/her local Mozilla community] to learn how to get involved. Thanks very much for your interest in Mozilla.
