Agenda - Planning Meeting - 2010-01-21
- Overview of how we're organized and finishing up attribution of tasks between members of the community (ie our communication and organizational tools):
- Blog issue: not enough writers. Find a solution to this
- Survey update: what has been done, what still needs to be done
- Should we hold 2 meetings/ month starting next time?
- Possible change of WoMoz Meeting hours: 9 PST would work? (vs.10 pst now)
Meeting Notes
- Blog issue: how to make more people write in general?
- discussion about putting womoz on planet: blogging goals (weekly review of what's been worked on in womoz)? or weekly interviews of contributors on womoz blog. Incite more women to post on the planet from their own blogs too
- put on the blog videos of womoz contributors that we'll make at fosdem. Whatever video we can do in Brussels, we can also ask Asa to put into the airmozilla stream
- make a list of general questions as a guide and each womoz contributor interviews at least one other and puts that as a blog post (ie list of womoz contributors). We can keep track of who's been interviewed. At least one highlight blog post a week would be awesome, more if possible
- write profiles of women in womoz to post on the blog, more like a weekly story
- put a "conversation starter" question on the main womoz page that changes weekly. That would encourage a blog post. So a question like "tell us about your first job" for ex. (livejournal has them for writer's block). This would be like writing assignments and we all have write a post on a particular topic on our respective blogs. The question would be there to stimulate people's creative thoughts and to share stories. We can start a wiki page where people can suggest these questions/topics, then just pick one off the list each week
- Survey update: what has been done, what still needs to be done
- much discussion about creating new surveys. Lucy, Lucas and Janet have ideas for new surveys to start working on: How to increase women job appliances in Mozilla + How to increase women contribution in Mozilla (+ floss by extension)
- much feedback on Nastassia's new survey (http://nastassia.womoz.free.fr/) and ideas to improve it (Janet, Lucas and Lucy especially suggested some specific changes). Some questions are too broad and goal of survey to be better determined: "Why are there so few women in OS?"
- Lucas suggests to continue tweaking the ongoing survey on wiki: http://womoz.org/wiki/doku.php?id=survey (Survey title = Are there few women in floss because they leave or because they don't join at all?")
- For future surveys: figure out what we want to take action on, then look to survey for data that helps us guide that action
- New idea suggested:
- create a database of articles showing examples of different types of "mistakes" in gender equality on the wiki (in employment, in contribution, etc.). Collect articles that point out common attitudes with tips on how to change them, and encourage women and managers to share their stories of how they overcame them
- Should we hold 2 meetings/ month starting next time?
- yes!!
- Possible change of WoMoz Meeting hours: 9 PST would work? (vs.10 pst now)
- those present on irc are ok, still to be asked on mailing list before deciding
