Overview

there's lots of opportunity for Mozilla to give our users a way to express themselves as fans throughout the World Cup and football in general. Mozilla wants to support this, and multiple parties are interested in helping. Lets group up and find the best way forward.

Current ideas in progress

Firefox Cup Campaign (Country Flag Personas)

Owners: Laura, Julie and Barbara + Ryan

Current campaign proposal draft

  • Create a Persona "flag" for each of the 32 teams
  • NoBox will be creating all 32 of the Personas.
  • Ryan coached that we will need to upload all Personas under a single user account e.g. called Mozilla Country Flags / Mozilla Soccer. We are not able to create a separate football category or search, but can create a gallery for a specific user (via their account ID).
  • Using a single user account has a plus and minus - it mitigates the issue of lots of copyrighted football imagery for the World cup, at the same time in a doesn't easily allow a showcase other created football personas. If anyone has an idea for a work around to show other football related personas from the Sports category, that would be great.

Contest idea

  • Laura had the idea to create competition between countries by encouraging them to wear a persona for their team throughout the tournament.
  • We are creating a Football country leader board with the number of country installed flags
  • Pride incentive to have your country win.
  • Added concept to get community involved is to add a vanity url points systems where people can get points for every download they refer.

EU PR plans include:

  • offer set of world cup persons (e.g. flags of participating countries
  • offer a 5 step "how to create a persona" tutorial
  • conduct an online survey on plans to show team support offline and as hook for "support your team via your browser"
  • Barbara wants to get feedback on how to tie this in with other plans around world cup and how to coordinate with South America where this is likely to also be a huge topic.
  • Possible twitter / social element to this show your support

Flags for each team

  • Persona for each of the 32 teams:

Other initiatives

Presence at the World Cup - Drumbeat Project

https://www.drumbeat.org/project/mozilla-world-cup

Have some kind of booth presence at the World Cup 2010 - have monitors available which can show Firefox in action, perhaps with soccer-related personas or themes (such as the Joga theme which was done for the last World Cup). Talk to end users about the benefits of using and or switching to open source products such as Firefox and Thunderbird. Have demonstrations of some of the Labs projects Mozilla is working on.
