Thunderbird 9.0 issues

Not so minor

(not in order)

  1. TB 9 does not install on XP Pro SP3: error registering AccessibleMarshal.dll and MapiProxy_InUse.dll - [bug 712960], [GS] - cannot reproduce with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3 as well as Vista, perhaps due to 3rd party software that is locking those 2 DLLs it's a Thunderbird packaging bug, fixed in TB 9.0.1 released December 23, 2011

Minor issues or issues fixed in TB 10 or future release

See Thunderbird 10 User Changes Page

(not in order, numbered only for convenience; minor = no dataloss or non dataloss mac and linux problems since only 5% or less of TB users are mac or linux)

  1. Folder panel has no content. JSON.parse: unexpected end of data Source File: chrome://messenger/content/folderPane.js - [bug 707329], [GS] - WORKAROUND: quit Thunderbird, delete folderTree.json, restart Thunderbird - FIXED for TB10 11Jan2012, [followup bug 717225 fixed in TB12 "Use safe file output stream for folderTree.json, directoryTree.json, session.json" in TB profile to prevent corruption]
  2. bad FROM spam address in header causes email to look like it comes from a contact when email address contains Unicode - [bug 669925] - dup:bug 716220 - probably around in recent builds like TB8 - fixed in TB10 11Jan2012
  3. By default Secunia PS 2.0 forces an update to English rather than localized Thunderbird ; WORKAROUNDS- re-install localized Thunderbird from getthunderbird.com, from secunia: "To change this, the user can double-click the program entry in the Scan Results and then choose the preferred language in the drop-down menu. We are aware that this approach may not be the most intuitive for our users and we are currently treating it as a bug. I have taken the freedom to quote your email to "bump up" our bug report and I have also raised the severity of the bug."
  4. Excel tables and Word Docs are pasted as images since TB 9 for locales that don't use a period for the decimal point - [bug 717218] [bug 714115], which also affects Firefox - [GS],duplicate bug: HTML/Rich text (copied from IE, Firefox, MSWord, etc.) is always pasted as plain text - [bug 714621], [bug 714621 in GS] - WORKAROUND change locale decimal point to a period: Windows - Control panel | Region and Language | Formats | Customize Format | Decimal Symbol: - Change "," to "." - FIXED in TB & Firefox 11, and TB10 Beta 4
  5. Quadruple Spacing caused by Cambria Math related font bug - [bug 598900], [GS]
  6. WINDOWS ONLY: For reasons unclear, some users do a Windows restore aka Windows system recovery back to a point where TB 7 or 8 was installed and then the upgrade to TB 8 or 9 results in TB8 or 9 crashing on startup since .jar files like omni.jar aren't saved in the Windows systems snapshot that Windows uses for Windows restore. - Real fix - tracked by tracker bug 702045 includes renaming .jar to.ja; WORKAROUND: re-install TB8 using the full TB8 installer. - [[tracker bug 702045]];[bug 691847], [bug 701944], [bug 701875] - 5 Possible GS Topics: [GS1], [GS2], [GS3], [GS4, [GS5] - Fixed in Firefox 10 and Thunderbird 10
  7. Control Drag doesn't copy messages - REGRESSION, fixed in TB10, [bug 713814]
  8. # Not all Attachments are shown by Thunderbird when those attachments are sent in a non standard way by Outlook and other email clients - [reopened bug 674473 after a partial fix in TB8] - WORKAROUND: Show All Body Parts Add-on until we get a real code fix; given the nature of MIME and the MIME code, this is not a trivial problem to fix - This has been a problem since Thunderbird 5 - Make MIME parts in a multipart/related context that are not referred to or cannot be displayed inline available as attachments again (MS's mailer, mail system of some companies, still continues to send multipart/related mail with PDF file etc. in it) - [bug 674473] - fixed in TB 11

Add-on Issues

(selected dates starting the day after release day which was December 21, 2011; can't do this for every day obviously :-) !)

December 21, 2011

December 22, 2011

(selected potential issues)

  1. Thunderbird 9 fails to copy and paste from Microsoft Word !!!! - [GS1] - I doubt this is a TB9 problem or even a Thunderbird problem but will double check. - Can't reproduce with Word 2010. Probably something wrong with the OP's Windows setup?

    1. [GMX] - Nothing that points to anything other than a Settings or GMX problem
